CHITTAGONG, June 1 (BSS): The newly elected mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) A J M Nasir Uddin announced on Monday that all illegal billboards in the city would be removed for retaining natural beauty of the city.
He said the CCC authority would remove not only the illegal billboards but also the authorised ones which were set up at unauthorised spots.
"I clearly want to say that all illegal billboards in the city will be removed. Not only the unauthorised hoardings but also the ones which are manipulated after getting permission from the city corporation would be removed", Nasir said this while visiting the illegal billboard eviction drive at Nasirabad gate no-2.The mayor watched the eviction drive conducted by CCC magistrate Nazia Sharmin for ten minutes.
The mayor said he would scrutinise the list of billboards in the city and make a separate list of unauthorised ones to remove those.
"Many (people) took permission from the corporation for setting up billboards but placed those at wrong spots. Besides, some billboards were set up in multiple sizes than they were permitted", he said.
"The CCC authority will also remove those manipulated billboards," he added.
AJM Nasir also said he will seek suggestions from the experts regarding the installation of new billboards.
"New billboards will be allowed as per advice of the experts. No new billboards will be permitted if the experts say 'no' to it", Nasir answered the quarries of journalists.
The billboard eviction drive has started again in the port city, after six months, on the directive of CCC mayor, sources said.
Earlier, CCC had urged the bill board owners to remove their bill boards within May 31.
