Nation to remember Saifur forever: BNP secy general

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Khondaker Delwar Hossain Tuesday said the nation would remember M Saifur Rahman forever as he has given a strong footing to the national economy.
Saifur Rahman had worked for the country and the nation until his death, he said at a commemorative meeting and Doa mahfil in the city, reports UNB.
The BNP organised the programme at Mahanagar Natya Mancha in the city on the death of its standing committee member and former finance minister M Saifur Rahman.

Abdullah Al-Noman and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Maniruzzaman Mian, journalist Shafiq Rehman, Juba Dal president Barkatullah Bulu and General Secretary Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, BNP Student Affairs Secretary Fazlul Haq Milon and BNP Office Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
Delwar Hossain said not only as an economic administrator, Saifur Rahman served the country as a prudent politician too.
He used to take tough decisions defying many hurdles for the welfare of the country, the BNP secretary general recalled.
Saifur Rahman always tried to speak the truth and do whatever was good for the country, he said. Sarwari Rahman said Saifur Rahman was a good man. He was a patriotic politician and economist. The vacuum created at his death cannot be filled up, she said.
Abdullah Al Noman said Saifur Rahman worked tirelessly to turn the country's population into human resources.
Saifur Rahman was not merely a BNP leader, but of the nation, he added.
A special munajat was also offered seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Saifur Rahman, who died in a road accident Saturday at the age of 77.
