National flags of 16 countries hoisted at Games Village

NEW DELHI, Oct 1 (BSS): The National flags of the contingents from 16 countries were hoisted amidst songs, dances and celebrations during the on-going team welcome ceremonies at the Commonwealth Games Village here.
The contingents - Falkland Islands, St. Lucia, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, St. Helena, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Gambia, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Jamaica, Bermuda and Uganda-were welcomed by Village Mayor Dalbir Singh, the Games mascot Shera and Volunteers, according to a Games press release.
The delegates were presented with a traditional Indian stole (Angavastra) on the occasion. The contingents were headed by their respective Chefs de Mission.
The National flags were raised by volunteers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) while their National Anthems were rendered. As a souvenir of the beautiful journey of the Queens Baton Relay 2010 Delhi, replicas of the Queen's Baton were presented to the contingents.
