National ID card and its future

Saturday, 20 December 2008

FOR the first time, we are going to cast our votes, having also national identity cards. It is certainly a great moment for us. In the past, many governments had tried, without success, to introduce the ID cards. In the process valuable tax money was wasted. So the outgoing caretakers deserve some credit for the job done.
But it is necessary to continue with the ID card system. At the same time, it is necessary to update or renew the ID cards in time.
The ID cards are not needed for obtaining 22 different services like passports, driving licences and selling or buying land. A culture will now be developed in our country for the citizens to demand National ID cards because different offices demand it. So this practice needs to be sustained.
