National ID service to go online

Monday, 16 June 2014

The government is thinking of introducing online National ID (NID) card services, Law minister Anisul Haque has said.
The minister said this in reply to a question by MP Abdul Latif from Chittagong-11 in Parliament Monday, according to a news agency.
Haque said the Election Commission’s National ID registration office has been offering one-stop services like rectifying erroneous NID cards or replacing lost one.
“The EC has extended its NID services to the Upazila level to reduce people’s inconvenience. In addition, it is considering giving the service through online,” he added.
Haque said giving NID card services through Virtual Private Network [VPN] was being considered. “Once it starts all the upazila offices will provide NID-related services in a day.
