A national metrology laboratory is going to be set up in the city shortly to ensure world standard accuracy in measurement of goods and services produced in the country.
Once the laboratory is established, local manufacturers will have to maintain a uniform standard in measurement.
Currently, there is no such laboratory in the country and consumers are often cheated by the producers and sellers of goods and services.
Project sources said this will be one of the largest world class metrology laboratories in South Asia as there will be most modern and sophisticated devices to ensure accurate measurements of goods.
"So far I know, this will be most modern and sophisticated laboratory in the South Asia as its accuracy, precision and technical arrangements are higher than others located in India and other neighbouring countries," said KM Mostafa Anwar, national coordinator of the project told the FE Wednesday.
The installation work of the laboratory will begin January next and it will continue until December 2008 as all the required equipment has already arrived in Dhaka.
The laboratory will be set up at the city's Tejgaon industrial area.
