National tourism authority

IT would be appreciated if the government sets up a National Tourism Authority (NTA). According to a recent newspaper report, an autonomous body would be set up to develop the country's potential tourism sector.
The proposed body should be able to bring a drastic change in the tourism sector. The tourism potentials of our country remain yet largely untapped. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism did some encouraging things. But many of such initiatives were not sustained.
Some of the actions taken by the ministry were not popular. Bangladesh now has some good and standard hotels not only in the major cities but also in other places. Available trains and air services as well as luxury bus services do facilitate tourism. But Bangladesh is yet to fully use its tourism potentials at Cox's Bazar, Kuakata, Inani Beach, the Chittagong Hill Tracts and other spots. It is also true that the needed infrastructures are lacking in many of the tourist spots. Development of the needed facilities would help exploit the potential.
But that the National Tourism Authority should not be like the similar bodies in other sectors. The body should be able to attract investment in tourism sector.
