National university and higher education

Friday, 24 April 2009

FOR many years we have hard many complaints of illegality and corruption at the National University.
The government recently has taken steps to reform the this university. A strong committee was formed to make a plan as to how the colleges under this university can be distributed among the six public universities.
The UGC tried to raise the standard of the National University by distributing all the colleges among the six universities. I think this plan may not be implement because the condition or standard of these universities is not so well either.
When they are not well, how can they increase the standard of the colleges? Before 1992 all colleges were lead by three universities: these are Dhaka University, Rajshahi university and Chittagong university. At that time these universities failed to leading these colleges. Session jam, poor educational environment, want of infrastructure facilities, and lack of eligible teachers compelled the government to create the National University for whole the country and led all these colleges and succeeded also. Though now there is session jam and some illegal activities.
UGC should see that the National University(NU) solves all its all problems. Then all the colleges should be kept under it. If they can solve and handle their activities properly there would be no need to refer them to six universities. But if they fail then they take a decision to shift to other universities.
