Nat'l Furniture Fair begins

The 9th National Furniture Fair- 2010 kicked off at city's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre Monday with a call from trade bodies for creating a more investment-friendly environment shunning the destructive political culture to help protect the country's business sector.
They also urged the government for quick implementation of power sector mega plans to resolve power crisis in the industrial sector.
The furniture industry owners' association leaders emphasised formulation of proper industrial policy and establishment of training institutes and universities to create more skilled workers in the sector to be more competitive in export market in terms of design, technology and quality.
The six-day fair, co-organised by Design and Technology Centre and Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association (BFIOA), is for promotion of local furniture, overall development of this sector and customer-manufacturer interaction.
Industries minister Dilip Barua inaugurated the fair while FBCCI president AK Azad, commerce secretary Ghulam Hussain, EPB vice-chairman Jalal Ahmed, BFIOA chairman KM Akhtaruzzaman, secretary general Selim H Rahman and treasurer Mohammad Ullah, were also present at the programme.
