Nat'l Income Tax Day Sept 15

Monday, 1 September 2008

The September 15 will be observed as the National Income Tax Day every year aiming to encourage people to pay tax, reports UNB.brIn the weekly meeting held Sunday at the Chief Adviser's Office with Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair, the Advisory Council of the caretaker government took the decision as the government also thinks that such initiative would bridge the gap between taxpayers and tax administration. brThe objective of the day is to create a taxpayer-friendly atmosphere by creating awareness among the taxpayers about the process of giving tax and their rights.brTop and regular taxpayers at district and national levels will be awarded on the day.brThe meeting also approved the ratification proposal of the Cape Town Convention and related Aircraft Protocol. The interests of aircraft seller, lessor, financier, purchaser and lessee have been preserved under the Convention.brScope will be created for buying aircraft on flexible conditions and at cheaper rates with the ratification of the convention, the council meeting noted.brThe meeting also approved ratification of the agreement that was signed between Bangladesh and Switzerland to prevent revenue evasion and to avoid double taxation.brExisting economic relations between Bangladesh and Switzerland would hopefully be strengthened with the approval of the agreement, it was stated.brThe Advisory Council also discussed the draft of the Chartered Secretaries (Amendment) Ordinance 2008 and sent it back for further scrutiny.brAdvisers and special assistants to the Chief Adviser attended the meeting. Cabinet secretary and secretaries concerned were also present.
