Nat\\\'l Mourning Day observed in divisions

CHITTAGONG, Aug 15 (BSS): The National Mourning Day was observed in Cittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions and elsewhere of the district by paying rich tributes to father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Friday.
They also observed 39th anniversary of martyrdom of Bangabandhu.
In Chittagong, People of the port city and its adjacent districts paid rich tributes to father of the nation on his 39th martyrdom anniversary.
The day was observed with a fresh vow to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu to build a 'Sonar Bangla' and to bring back his fugitive convicted killers to execute verdict of the murder case.
Apart from the Chittagong city, north and south district units of Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, different socio-cultural organisations, trade unions, district administration and professional bodies organised separate discussions marking the day.
Leaders and workers of AL and its front organisations and professional bodies wear black badges.
The programmes included hoisting of national and black flag at half-mast atop all party offices, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, Quran Khwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, voluntary blood donation and distribution of foods among the destitute.
A 'Chittagognian traditional Mezban' was arranged for nearly ten thousand people at Tungipara of Gopalgonj district on the occasion of the 39th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation.
Former Chittagong City mayor and president of Chittagong City AL ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury organised the mezban for years.
In Khulna, the National Mourning Day was observed in Khulna city and elsewhere of the district by paying rich tributes Bangabandhu.
On this fateful day in 1975, Bangabandhu and most of his family members were killed in his house at Dhanmondi Road No 32 by a group of disgruntled army officers as part of a long-running conspiracy of the anti-liberation forces. Officially the day is observed as the National Mourning Day.
