Nat'l unity crucial to countering evil forces: BNP

FE REPORT | Thursday, 28 November 2024

BNP secretary-general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said national unity is the key to countering the evil forces who want to put the country's independence, sovereignty and stability at stake.
"Right now, what is needed most is national unity. We have enormous challenges ahead of us, particularly in defeating the evil forces who want to destroy our independence, sovereignty and stability."
Mr Fakhrul said this while talking to the media after a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday night, in the wake of unrest in different parts of the country.
Accompanied a delegation at the parley, the party's secretary expressed deep concerns over the fluid political situation prevailing in the country.
"We've informed him of our concern over the current law-and-order situation, including student clashes and confrontations," he told the media.
"We hope the chief adviser along with his council (of advisers) will take immediate action to address these problems." Mr Fakhrul said efforts were on to create divisions among people.
At the meeting, the BNP leaders also drew the chief adviser's attention to an abnormal hike in the prices of essentials, saying that it was hurting commoners.
They urged Dr Yunus to take actionable measures like raising the number of TCB outlets for selling commodities at cheaper rates.
The nationalist party also called for purging union councils and trade bodies of the representatives of the past 'fascist' government.
Mr Fakhrul was flanked by BNP standing-committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed.
