Nature's fury, people's duty
Monday, 24 August 2020
After cyclone Amphan and floods in Bangladesh's ravaged almost 50 per cent areas, we now see rising tidal surge in the coastal belt. People in the southern region are facing a series of challenges when the coronavirus has crippled normal life and the economy. Unfortunately, the year 2020 has been marked by more than a fair share of disasters for Bangladesh people.
Now, once the monsoon and autumn seasons are over, there would be massive rebuilding needs - roads, schools, hospital buildings etc. Historically, floods are followed by good crops in Bangladesh if proper initiatives are taken. In a year, when coronavirus has stopped almost everything, it will be interesting to see how Bangladesh takes initiatives to restore life and livelihoods after this season. The pandemic may be there till then but, our people, plagued by a series of natural disasters would want to see improvement in the situation. Still state initiatives must be there to utilise people's enthusiasm.
