SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 9 (UNB): A process is going on to set up a naval commando unit in Bangladesh Navy to curb coastal smuggling and piracy, safeguard the nation and secure the maritime boundary, Parliament was told Wednesday.
The naval commandos will operate under the BN Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (SWADS) Command, Planning Minister AK Khandaker, in charge of Defence Ministry in Parliament, said in a written answer to a question of M Harunur Rashid (Chandpur-4).
Training of the naval commando and divers of the Bangladesh Navy are going on, he said.
Replying to Waresat Hossain Belal (Netrakona-5), the Minister in another written answer said that the government has formed a high-power committee to review the cases of sacked armed forces personnel in the last seven years, including under the BNP led 4-party alliance government.
The review committee so far came to know that 74 armed forces persons were forced to opt for resignation, Khandaker said.
"Some other applications are under consideration of the review committee," he added.
