Navy seizes nets, jatkas worth Tk 440m

Bangladesh Navy, under its 'Operation Jatka' programme, seized illegal current nets and jatkas (hilsa fries) worth about Tk 440 million in the last three months, reports UNB.
The Navy conducted drives under the 'Operation Jatka' in different areas, including the costal belt and rivers of the southern region and its adjacent hilsa breeding and spawning zones, to protect hilsa.
The drives began on February 28 and ended on May 31.
The seized nets were later destroyed in the presence of local administration, law enforcement agencies and fisheries officers.
