Navy seizes Tk 110m current nets, jatka

Bangladesh Navy under its ‘Operation Jatka’ programme seized illegal current nets and jatka (hilsa fries) worth about Tk 110 million in the last 21 days till April 26.
Bangladesh Navy has been conducting drives under the ‘Operation Jatka’ in various areas, including the costal belt and rivers of the southern region and its adjacent hilsa breeding and spawning zones, to protect hilsa.
During the drives, the Navy members seized 13,579,181 metres of current net since February 28 this year, according to a news agency.
Later, the seized current nets were destroyed in the presence of representatives of local administration, law enforcement agencies and fisheries officers, said an ISPR release  Sunday.
