CHATTOGRAM, Apr 22: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) from Wednesday allowed shipments and deliveries of all kinds of goods from Chittagong Port in an attempt to accelerate cargo movement from the country's prime sea port.
In the wake of a record stockpile of containers at the port due to the government's four-week long general holidays for coronavirus outbreak, it issued a new directive to the Chattogram Customs House (CCH) to start from Wednesday normal operation to clear the export and import goods from jetties and docks.
Earlier, a government order had only allowed the CCH to release from the port essential goods, including drugs and medicines, medical equipment, pesticides and foods.
CCH sources said the NBR's new directive, signed by its Second Secretary Mohammed Mehraj Ul Alam Smarat, was sent to the CCH to continue its normal operation during the government's vacation.
