NBR chief among five top bureaucrats transferred

In a major reshuffle in the administration, the government transferred Thursday five top bureaucrats including the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Badiur Rahman.
Badiur, who was appointed as the NBR chief and Secretary of the Internal Resource Division (IRD) on Jan 21 last, has been transferred to the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management as secretary, an official circular said.
On the other hand, Muhammad Abdul Majid, member of the Planning Commission (PC), has been appointed as the NBR Chairman, and also the Secretary of the IRD.
The government has also redistributed offices of Energy Secretary AMM Nasir Uddin, Food and Disaster Management Secretary Dhiraj Malaker, Board of Investment (BoI) Executive Chairman Mohammad Mohsin, said a Press Information Department (PID) handout.
Dhiraj Malakar has been transferred to the PC as member from the Ministry of Food and Disaster Management, it mentioned.
Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resource Division AMM Nasir Uddin has also been named as a member of the Planning Commission.
The BoI Executive Chairman Mohammad Mohsin has been transferred to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division as Secretary, the handout added.
Meanwhile, welcoming the government's transfer order, the newly appointed NBR Chairman Abdul Majid told the FE that he would join his new office on Monday.
"First of all, I will decide what to do for further augmentation of the government's tax revenue after taking the overall situation of the revenue administration into consideration," he said.
"Obviously, my first and foremost responsibility will be to boost the government's revenue earnings through enhancing the efficiency of the tax administration," the new NBR Chairman said.
