Friday, 18 November 2011

FE Report The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Thursday held meeting with the five top bosses of major customs house in a bid to follow up the overall under-invoicing in import of different commercial products. NBR chief Nasiruddin Ahmed chaired the meeting, also attended by top customs officials of the Board. Customs officials said a number of commissioners in the customs houses took responsibilities after a massive reshuffling and promotion. The Board held the meeting to share the ways to check import of commercial products quoting lower price than that of original. Some industry people said under-invoicing has been rampant in recent times as mandatory pre-shipment inspection (PSI) on about 3,000 items was withdrawn over the last one and a half years. They said items like refrigerator, electronic items, tyre, tube and essential consumer goods, import of which was subject to PSI, remain no longer under PSI.
