NBR laurels for top VAT payers

The apex tax administration authority of the country has picked top VAT payers both at the national and district levels for its laurels this year.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) selected top nine VAT (value-added tax) payers at the national level and 110 others at the district level for the awards for their contribution to the public exchequer, according to a gazette notification made in this connection.
Gallerie Apex, Aarong and Mustafa Mart are the top three VAT payers in the business category.
National Television Limited (RTV), Chowdhury Tea Warehouse and the Rural Electrification Board (REB) will be awarded as the highest VAT payers in the services category.
On the other hand, three state-owned entities-Titas Gas Field, Kailashtila Gas Field and Rashidpur Condensate Fractionation Plant-have been selected for the NBR laurels in the production category.
The NBR will hand over the awards at a programme on Sunday on the occasion of National VAT Day.
The revenue board will observe a week-long programme from July 10-16 marking the VAT Day.
However, Finance Minister AMA Muhith will be the chief guest at the award-giving ceremony.
A procession will be brought out today (July 10) from the NBR premises marking the National VAT Day-2015. State Minister for Finance MA Mannan will inaugurate it. The procession will end at the National Press Club.
The NBR selected the top VAT-paying companies under the highest VAT payers' award giving policy-2005 (amended) on the basis of the volume of their VAT paid in the fiscal year 2013-14.
Promi Agro Foods Ltd, Olympic Industries Ltd, Pran Dairy Ltd, Dream Holiday Ltd, Shojib Enterprise, Meghna Energy, Fiber at Home, Bajaj Utsob, Matri Bhander, Asian Paints, Ashuganj Fertilizer, Square Pharmaceuticals Pabna, Pride Saree Rajshahi, Igloo Foods Chapainawabganj and BRB Cables are among the district level top VAT payers across the country.
