FE Report
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will not prepare any list by scrutinising the tax files of those participating in election, but it will provide required information to the Election Commission (EC).
NBR Chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid said: "It is a legal obligation of the NBR to provide tax information, if the EC wants to verify the wealth statements of the election candidates."
If there is a mismatch between the wealth statement and tax payment, that will help the government identify the undisclosed income, he added.
He also said: "It is a common task of the NBR to help the EC verify the tax-related information of the candidates.
The government sought such information from the revenue board every year and during each election."
The EC has already sought tax-related information concerning those, who won in the elections to four city corporations and nine municipalities.
Officials said the NBR will give the tax-related information to the EC as required by the authority.
