The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has launched an investigation to assess actual income earned from the latest concert of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan that took place in the city Friday.
Taxmen will scrutinise expenditures and the sponsored amount provided by 24 leading businesses, an NBR official said.
A 20-member vigilance team of the income tax department was present in the concert at Army stadium to see overall expenditures, sale of tickets and stage decoration.
The vigilance team will submit its investigation report today (Monday).
"We have launched the move to complete the groundwork of actual income from the concert to avoid any revenue loss in future," said Director General (DG) of NBR inspection cell Kanon Kumar Roy who heads of the vigilance team.
The investigation will help the government to ensure proper tax collection from one of the biggest shows in the country, he said.
The revenue board official said the NBR has already collected Tk 3.7 million advance income tax from the organiser of the concert.
NBR officials said Antar Showbiz, organiser of the concert, has showed Tk 5.0 million as honorarium of the Bollywood superstar which seems abnormally low to the taxmen.
They said other law enforcing agencies also launched the investigation simultaneously to assess actual expenditure in the concert.
The amount of sponsored money and expenditures will be cross-checked to assess earning of the event management company.
"The company will have to pay more tax with penalty if the investigation report finds concealment of information," said a senior NBR official.
The company has paid Tk 1.25 million advance tax, which is 25 per cent of the honorarium paid to Shahrukh Khan.
Talking to the FE, accounts director of Antar Showbiz Md Asif Hossain said: "We have estimated nearly Tk 40 million expenditures in the concert.
