National Board of Revenue (NBR) has asked all the scheduled banks to provide it with account information of the chairman and three other directors of the Raintree Hotel by next 15 days.
Tax zone-7 of the NBR's income tax wing sent letters to the banks, seeking the account information of the share holders of the hotel located in the city's Banani area.
Shah Md Nahian Harun is the chairman of the hotel and the directors are Shah Md Adnan Harun, who is also the Managing Director (MD) of the hotel, Mahir Harun and Monira Harun.
The hotel has been in the spotlight recently since the revelation of a rape incident that allegedly took place here. Two university girls reportedly fell victim of the incident.
Sources concerned said the hotel has five directors, each having 10,000 shares.
The tax authority was scrutinising the tax returns of another director, Humaira Harun, and was preparing to serve another letter seeking her account information from the banks.
Sources said the taxmen served the search letter as they found no bank statements in their tax returns. The directors did not provide bank account information properly in the tax files.
The tax return of hotel for 2016-17 was not also submitted. The tax zone-7 has served notice to the hotel authority, asking them to submit the return.
The hotel obtained electronic taxpayers identification number (TIN) on April 27, 2015. As per law, the company is supposed to submit its tax return within six months of obtaining the TIN.
The NBR has slapped a penalty of Tk 35,000 on the hotel for non-submission of the return, officials said.
The company was formed on February 5, 2015. The nine-story building on five kathas of land has 3,186 square feet area.
Officials said Monira Harun has been submitting her tax return for long. In an assessment, the income tax officials found an unpaid tax demand of Tk 2,14,000, which she paid accordingly.
The taxmen would sit in a hearing with Monira Harun on May 30 next.
In a drive on May 14, the customs Intelligence found 10 bottles of liquor at the hotel.
