NBR seeks bank details of Sadeeq Agro, two owners

The Central Intelligence Cell of the revenue board has instructed all banks to provide bank details of Sadeeq Agro Limited (SAL) and its two key persons within a week.
The cell under the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sent letters to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all commercial banks in this regard recently.
Bank details of the Sadeeq Agro and its two owners Emran Hossain and Touhidul Zenith have been sought for investigation, intelligence sources said.

Official sources said bank details including loan accounts, loan approval documents (to find out mortgaged assets), savings certificates, term and other bank deposits have to be furnished to the tax authority by the banks.
A senior NBR official said the Sadeeq Agro has formed the company in 2017 from its previous proprietorship businesses.
However, it has not submitted tax return to the NBR yet though Tax Zone-2 had fined the company for this irregularity earlier, he said.
The company's dilly-dally on submission of tax return proves it has concealed information on actual income, he added.
The CIC has also detected two food selling outlets of the SAL in Gulshan and Banani in the city, the official said.
The tax sleuths have started investigating the other businesses of the SAL including those two outlets, he added.
Taxmen said the company remained non-compliant from the beginning and traced by the taxmen accordingly before the ACC investigation was launched.
SAL came under scrutiny of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) recently for selling a goat worth Tk1.2 million to a young son of former National Board of Revenue officer Matiur Rahman.
According to Income Tax Act-2023, all companies must submit tax returns to their respective tax zones explaining details of the income, expenditures and assets.
Failure in tax return submission in a stipulated time frame is a punishable offence.
The ACC also discovered that SAL had imported banned Brahman cattle and medicine.
In a drive at a farmhouse of SAL in Keraniganj and Central Cattle Breeding and Dairy Farm in Savar, the ACC has detected the irregularities.
Also, Dhaka North City Corporation carried out a drive against SAL on Saturday last, demolishing a structure it illegally constructed along the Ramchandrapur canal.
The anti-graft watchdog detected that the SAL had been continuing operation without a trade license.
Owner of Sadeeq Agro, Imran Hossain, may face legal action for importing prohibited medicine and Brahman cattle, sources said.
They said Imran imported 18 American forbidden Brahman cattle in 2021 through a false declaration in customs. Import of such cattle remained banned since 2016.
The cattle were kept on central cattle breeding and dairy farms after they were seized by Dhaka Customs at the airport.
In search of Brahman cows, the ACC also raided different farms of the SAL on Wednesday.
