National Board of Revenue (NBR) has seized a container of import consignment at Mongla port on suspicion that it has been brought under a false declaration to evade duty.
A three-member team of Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) arrived at Mongla port Tuesday to check the seized consignment, officials said.
CIC and Mongla port authority will jointly open the container today (Wednesday).
The seizure was made on a tip-off from the CIC last month, the officials said.
The CIC acted on the basis of secrete information and clues received from the top government officials.
Intelligence wing of NBR is suspecting duty evasion behind the false declaration of goods in the consignments.
Importers of the consignment have disappeared after the container reached the port.
The consignment has been imported under the banner of 'Media enterprise' but concerned importer did not release the goods from Mongla port, said a senior revenue board official.
The NBR did not also find any taxpayers identification number (TIN) of the importers, which could help it chase, he said.
