FE Report
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has separated its revenue administration and policy-making wings in line with the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reform the country's revenue administration.
The board has also increased the number of its members to nine from existing seven, and re-distributed their responsibilities.
The NBR recently issued an order to implement the separation process as soon as possible.
According to the order, the revenue board will have three separate wings on Income Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) and Customs, although there was a plan to transfer its policy-making wing to the Internal Resources Division (IRD).
"The NBR has dropped the transfer plan due to accommodation problem. But the wings will work under the supervision of the IRD secretary who is also the NBR chairman," an official of the NBR said.
The moves will help the government increase its revenue earning as well as ensure transparency in the revenue administration, he added.
