NBR suspends three senior officials

They were involved with S. Alam's tax files

FE REPORT | Friday, 18 October 2024

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has suspended three senior officials from the income tax department due to alleged procedural irregularities related to S. Alam's tax files.
The officials are Additional Commissioner of Taxes Syful Alam, Joint Commissioner of Taxes AKM Shamsuzzaman, and Assistant Commissioner of Taxes Md Aminul Islam.
NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan issued three separate suspension letters on Thursday.
However, the officials will continue to receive certain allowances during their suspension period.
According to senior tax officials, the three officials were serving under the Chittagong Tax Zone and were directly involved with S. Alam's tax files.
It is reported that the suspension is not linked to the assessment of S. Alam or his companies' tax files, but pertaining to the procedural flaws in handling those files, as noted by one tax official.
