NBR to have its own building

Thursday, 5 June 2014

At long last, the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the state’s tax collection department, is going to have its own building.
This follows the government’s eviction of all illegal occupants who had been occupying a site earmarked for the NBR for an incredible 34 years.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith revealed this while placing the proposed budget for the next fiscal on Thursday.
He said that although NBR collects the lion’s share of the domestic revenue, with the help of its upto 24,000 employees, to this day it does not have any administrative building of its own.
“I am pleased to inform you that after long 34 years, the possession of the land allocated for Rajossho Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka has recently been free from illegal occupiers.”
He also announced that construction of a planned 12-storied Rajossho Bhaban (name set for the NBR building) on 2 acres of land at a cost of Tk. 146 crore will begin soon, according to UNB.
