NBR to honour 30 taxpayers of six div cities Dec 24

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will award 30 top income taxpayers of six divisional cities on December 24 on the basis of highest payments of tax and for long period of tax payment.
The NBR has selected five taxpayers from each city corporation areas to give the honour. From each division, the NBR has selected two taxpayers who have been paying tax for long and three taxpayers on the basis of highest tax payments.
Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam is expected to distribute the awards at a function at the Osmani Sriti Milonayoton in the city.
The top five taxpayers from each division will get special status in any government programmes in their respective divisions, and will also be entitled to other government facilities.
"We have found that some individuals have paid nearly Tk 40 million in a year as income tax. Those taxpayers' deserve social honour from the government, which will encourage other to pay income tax," said NBR Chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid.
From Dhaka city, Abul Hossain Chowdhury, owner of Abul and Brothers, under tax zone-5, has been selected as top taxpayer who paid the deadline up to January 15 next year from December 18, the previously scheduled last date.
NBR officials said that the upcoming meetings with the RAJUK, city corporations, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and banks would help them a lot to find out the persons who are dodging taxes.
A high official of the revenue board told the news agency that they would ask the RAJUK, BRTA, city corporations and bank authorities to provide the information about their clients who have TINs.
Recently, the NBR has initiated introducing tax-sticker for car owners to identify if the respective car owner is a taxpayer or not.
"The tax-sticker will be pasted on the windshield of a car as of other stickers showing conventional payments like BTRC tax," NBR chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid told the agency over telephone.
