FE Report
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to observe VAT Day on July 10 every year in a bid to encourage people to pay consumers' tax.
Each year, the board will also observe VAT week in the second week of July.
The revenue board took the decision recently in a meeting on the need for raising public awareness and motivating businesses on the payment of VAT.
The board's VAT wing has also mapped out a work plan on the motivational campaign as it believes VAT collection could be increased given its potential.
The wing has decided to give novelist and playwright Humayun Ahmed the responsibility to make a documentary on VAT.
The NBR will also seek to raise awareness through sending SMS to mobile users about the payment of VAT.
VAT education will be included in the curriculum of higher secondary school to educate future tax payers about the necessity of payment of tax.
