FE Report
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has planned to open a few more temporary service centres in the city to facilitate the income tax payers in submitting their returns properly.
The revenue board has taken the move to help the income taxpayers' for filing and submitting income tax returns at their doorstep ahead of the income tax payment deadline.
The revenue board has already opened a number of camps in PG (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib) hospital, secretariat, and officers' club. It will also open more such centres in line with the demand of taxpayers.
The NBR chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid Thursday opened a service centre in Uttara.
The NBR chairman said: "These camps will remain open until October 31, the last date of submission of income tax."
This year, taxpayers of certain areas will not be required to come in the revenue board head office at Segun Bagicha for submission of their tax returns.
"We are selecting the areas where number of taxpayers are higher. They will able to file their tax returns in the local camp," the NBR chief said.
The NBR is simplifying the payment procedures to encourage the taxpayers' for paying taxes and also to develop tax culture among them, he added.
The NBR chief said: "We have to eliminate the fear factor among the taxpayers. The revenue board is trying to motivate people for filing tax returns willingly."
"Once the tax culture among the people develops, it will bring a long-term positive outcome in country's economy," he said.
This year, the government has set a revenue target of Tk 545 billion following the outstanding performance of the revenue board mobilised through income tax collection.
The revenue board has surpassed its target by Tk 13 billion in 2007-08, which is a record collection in the history of NBR.
Officials expressed their hope that the revenue board could easily achieve its target for the current year through proper awareness building campaigns.
