NBSM launches sugarcane crushing

NATORE, Oct 23: Youth and Sports Minister Ahad Ali Sarker formally inaugurated sugarcane crushing 2010-2011 season of North Bengal Sugar Mills, Gopalpur, in Natore district as the chief guest October 22. Managing Director of NBSM Engineer Haris Ali was present in the chair. Local MP Abu Talha, Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Ranjit Kumar Biswas, President of Natore Awami League Advocate Sajedur Rahman Khan, General Secretary of Natore Awami League Advocate Hanif Ali Sheikh, Vice-President Advocate Abul Kalam Azad were present as the special guests.
The NBSM fixed a target to produce 12,700 metric tons sugar by crushing 1,70,000 metric tons of sugarcane within 103-day sugarcane crushing period wherein sugar recovery will be 7.5 per cent.
North Bengal Sugar Mills crushed 1,60,000 metric tons sugarcane and produced 11,680 metric tons sugar in a 100-day sugarcane crushing period in 2009-2010 season.
It may be mentioned, about 3,18,991 metric tons of sugarcane will be crushed through about 4,000 unauthorised power crushers.
North Bengal Sugar Mills is the first sugar mill in our country which was established in 1932 during the British regime.
The meeting was conducted by Anowar Kamal, General Secretary of NBSM Sramik Karmachari Union.
