NCC to wrap up list of suspected corrupt this month

Tuesday, 11 September 2007

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) secretary Monday said the final list of suspected corrupt being made by the national coordination committee (NCC) on preventing corruption and severe crimes would be completed this month, report BSS/UNB.
"We expect to get the final list by this month. We have no knowledge of the actual figure and the nature of people who are on the list as we are not involved with the process," ACC Secretary Mokhles-ur Rahman told reporters at the weekly briefing at his office in the city.
Referring to the recent speech of the Army Chief and the address to nation by the Chief Adviser, the ACC secretary said the NCC will not make any such list in future, but the ACC, as the anti-graft watchdog, would continue its drive against corruption.
Mokhles further added: It was not involved in preparing the list of 220 corrupt suspects as mentioned by the Chief Adviser in his Sunday's address to the nation, but the list would be published by the Commission.
Asked why cases were not filed against former ministers Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Motiur Rahman Nizami and Ali Ahsan M Mujahid despite being on the same purchase committee while a case was filed against former prime minister Khaleda Zia, Mohkles said the investigation is going on and their names would appear if it comes out in the investigation.
Asked if the ACC would seek wealth statements from Arafat Rahman Koko as sought from Khaleda and Tarique Rahman, he said as of now there has been no need of seeking Koko's wealth statement. "His wealth statement will be sought if the investigating officer of the case feels necessary."
Giving a brief on the activities of the commission in last few months, he said the ACC has so far issued notices to 218 persons asking them to submit their wealth statements, out of which 198 persons responded. Non-submission cases were filed against six persons for defying the ACC notices.
