NILPHAMARI, Oct 30: North West Crop Diversification Project (NCDP) improved the living of small farmers through diversified production of high value crops.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has been implementing this crop diversification project in the country's northwest region to help target groups increase their farm income.
The seven-year programme scheduled to end by June 2008 has been extended for another one year up to June 2009.
Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Sanarul Islam of DAE Nilphamari said "NCDP is being implemented in 4 upazilas out of 6 upazilas of the district."
Farmer groups were formed through training, technology transfer and providing extension support in all the union parishads in the selected upazilas."
On the other hand, farmer groups are being supported by credit for agriculture business and for efficient management in marketing their products.
The credit component is being conducted by two NGOs- Proshikha and BRAC under close supervision of RAKUB.
