NCDP-initiated five markets completed in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Nov 27: Construction of one wholesale market and four growers' markets in Nilphamari district has been completed recently. Northwest Crop Diversification Project (NCDP) initiated the building of the trade centres to develop a sound marketing network in the region.
The wholesale market is located in Nilphamari town in Natun Bazar area and of the four growers markets, one is in Boragari union parishad in Domar Upazila, one in Chiklihat in Saidpur Upazila, one in Magura UP in Kishoreganj Upazila and one in Jadurhat in Sadar Upazila.
Nilphamari District Marketing Investigator ATM Ershadul Alam Khan said allotment of shops of the wholesale market and four growers markets has been given on tender basis and only the local business persons are entitled to participate in it. They will get 50 per cent of the total number of shop.
Rest of the shops are to be allotted to the farmers marketing groups (FMG) under NCDP.
Sources said the farmers groups are formed through training, technology transfer and providing extension support with a view to raising the yield of high value crops.
On the other hand, farmers groups are being supported by credit for promoting agriculture business, side by side with efficient management in marketing their products. The credit component is being conducted by two NGOs Proshika and BRAC.
Sources said the department of agriculture marketing would collect, collate and disseminate accurate and timely information on the price and demand for the produce at appropriate focal points.
