NCDP likely to conclude June 2008

NILPHAMARI, Feb 17: North-West Crop Diversification Project (NCDP) that started operation in July 2000 has reached the concluding year as the project is scheduled to end in June 2008, sources said.
The project is being implemented in 60 upazilas of 16 northern districts under Rajshahi Division.
Out of the total project cost of Tk 3.4190 billion (Tk 341.90 crore), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided Tk 2.3636 billion and the rest was provided by the Bangladesh government, sources said.
The project was designed to make the small farmers of the region well-off through diversified production of cash-crops, sources added.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension sources, farmers are provided with credit for promoting agriculture business and efficient management in marketing their products.
Credit component is being conducted by two NGOs- Proshika and BRAC-and under the supervision of the Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, the source added.
