Mir Arshadul Hoque, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party's (NCP) Chattogram Metropolitan unit, has announced his resignation in a statement on social media, reports bdnews24.com.
In a post on Facebook on Thursday, Arshadul said he was stepping down from all positions within the party. He also said he would no longer run for election from the Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) constituency in the upcoming election. Explaining his decision, Arshadul said he believed the party was moving in the "wrong direction".
In the same post, he also welcomed BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's return home after 17 years in exile.
In addition to his role as the chief coordinator for Chattogram city, Arshadul held several senior positions within the NCP, serving as central joint member secretary, a member of the Executive Council, media cell and the disciplinary committee. He also headed the party's environment cell.
On the reasons for his resignation, Arshadul, who had previously secured the NCP nomination for the Chattogram-16 seat, declined to elaborate further.
"I have resigned from all party positions. I have provided a detailed explanation on my Facebook post," he said.
Arshadul's political journey began during his university years, where he worked as a campus correspondent.
