Need for an effective drive against adulteration of food items

Thursday, 14 August 2008

WE need measures against those traders who are out to make profit at the cost of people's health. They do not hesitate even to make money capitalising children lives. What they will do with this money? The seizure of date expired powdered milk indicates the risk to which our children are exposed.

Besides, we all, particularly the children, are vulnerable at every stage of life. Just think of the hazards they face from polluted air, arsenic in water, food contaminated with toxic matters, from the early stage of life. Proper education which can help them to survive also remains elusive. Because of poverty, child workers are exploited. Many take to crimes.

The profit-makers forget that they also have children or would have children some day. They import adulterated or toxic foods to get rich quick without ever thinking of their own families. Doing all these, what future are they creating for themselves, their families and their children? Who knows that they would have to spend all their money either for the treatment of their children? They might lose this undue money in some other unknown ways also.
