Need for enhancing trade between Bhutan, Bangladesh underlined

President Iajuddin Ahmed underlined the need for enhancing bilateral trade and commerce between Bhutan and Bangladesh, reports UNB.
The President also stressed on exchanging of visit of trade delegations between the countries for exploring all avenues of economic cooperation.
"Bangladesh attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with Bhutan", Iajuddin said when Bhutanese Ambassador in Bangladesh Dasho Tshering Dorji presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban in the city Monday.
Welcoming the new ambassador, the President congratulated him on his new assignment as the ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh.
He expressed satisfaction at the existing bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.
He also expressed the hope that the relations would be further strengthened and deepened in the days to come.
Iajuddin recalled with gratitude the invaluable support by the Kingdom of Bhutan during the War of Liberation and its recognition of Bangladesh on December 07, 1971.
He apprised the envoy that the Bhutanese government may import the country's world class standard pharmaceuticals, melamine, garments and jute goods at a very competitive price. He also gave due importance on educational exchange programme for the benefit of the two countries.
The President apprised the envoy that there is a huge potential for cooperation between the two countries in the area of hydro-electrical power generation.
Iajuddin recalled the contribution being made by the King of Bhutan Jigme Singhe Wangchhuk for promoting regional cooperation under SAARC.
The President assured the ambassador of all support and cooperation in discharging his duties in Bangladesh and wished him a good health and happiness.
He conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the King of Bhutan and invited him to visit Bangladesh at his convenience through the envoy.
The Bhutanese envoy said that the relations between Bhutan and Bangladesh were excellent and it would be further strengthened in the days to come.
He apprised the President that Bhutan is eager to work with Bangladesh for enhancing bilateral trade and commerce.
Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, the ambassador was given a guard of honour by the President's Guard Regiment. The ambassador took the salute and inspected the parade.
The President's Secretary Md Sirajul Islam, Foreign Secretary in-charge Md Touhid Hossain, Press Secretary Abdul Awal Howlader and concerned officials from both the countries were present on the occasion.
