Need for quality, factual and not imaginary reports on stock market
Wednesday, 29 October 2008
The first two lines of the report, appearing in page 1 of the FE on October 27, 2008 under the caption, 'Inclement weather dampens investors' interest', goes on .... "Dhaka stocks fell sharply Sunday amid thin turnout of investors due to inclement weather now sweeping across the country." With due respect my question towards the respected reporter is that does he have any idea about what's going on in our share market ? Are we the investors so dumb and lazy that we would spend time sleeping and let our investment nose-dive and wash away our hard earned money ?
The reason of this massive downfall is something else which we all know but what was the point of such a heading and such an illogical reason for the decrease of 70 points that occurred on Sunday ?
On Sunday DSE decreased by 70 points or so and this respected reporter is calling this downslide nothing but just a thin turnover of investors due to inclement weather. Those days are gone when we had to roam around Motijheel area to buy paper shares. Now we, the investors, just need to make a phone call to buy or sell our stock. So what does the poor turnout of investors has to do with the decline of the price of stocks in the share market ?
Does that mean that on a bright sunny day our stock market will expect a super boom? How illogical this report is ? Are we the general investors so lazy that we would prefer to stay at home and let the market go flat or whatever happens ? I personally think that the concerned reporter has got little knowledge or may be this gentleman does not know the significance of the fall of 70 points in a single day.
Stock market is a very sensitive area in fact any news covered by the reporters should be carefully dealt with. Writing false reports or articles surely does effect the mentality of the shareholders.
I firmly believe that most of the readers of THE FINANCIAL EXPRESS newspaper are investors. This newspaper is purely for the investors of our share market. So, coming up with false articles reports will easily be spotted out by the readers and the calibre of the reporter will be questioned.
I personally shared this report with some of my friends and colleagues who happen to be investors as well and they simply laughed after reading the heading of the report. So, my earnest request is that please try to maintain the quality and standard of this newspaper. I am a regular reader of your newspaper and I don't wait till the next morning for the paper boy to drop off the newspaper, rather everyday from 11 pm onwards I start visiting your webpage, just to go through the financial news. Please give us the best you can.
