Neely enthrals audience

Saturday, 9 October 2010

The O-series arranged a cultural evening of Tagore singer Roquaiya Hasina Neely recently at the central auditorium of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). It was her fourth solo performance organised by O-series. Neely is known for presenting Tagore's songs in its pure form.
The musical evening started off with the Tagore song, "Dhai jeno mor sakol bhalobasha". This first song deeply touched the heart of the audience. The large BUET auditorium was packed up with music-lovers. The audience liked another song of Tagore, "Ami Rupe Tomai Bholabo Na" rendered by the artiste.
She also sang a modern song "Tumi Je Aamar". Other modern songs performed by the singer were "Nishiraat banka chaand akashey," "Ei sundar swarnali sondhyae," "bhul sabi bhul" and more.
A brief video presentation was screened on the singer's career as artist. At the tender age of five, Neely started learning music. A major source of inspiration was her martyred intellectual father Rashidul Hasan, a teacher of the English Department of Dhaka University. She completed five years course in music from Chhayanuat Sangeet Bidyatan. She learned Tagore songs from Ajit Roy and late Wahidul Haque of Chhayanuat.
