Nepal reach semis as group champions

SYLHET, Aug 14 (UNB): Nepal reached the semifinal of the six-nation SAFF U-16 Championship as Group B champion beating Afghanistan by a solitary goal in the last group match at the Sylhet Stadium here Friday, reports UNB.
In the semifinals Sunday (August 16), all -win Group A champion Bangladesh will play Group B runners-up Afghanistan while another all- win Nepal will face Group A runners-up defending champions India at 6pm and 3:00 pm respectively at the same venue.
The final of the continental meet will be held on August 18 at the same venue.
In the day's match, after a barren first half, Kshitiz Raj scored the match winner for Nepal in the 47th minute.
Earlier, hosts Bangladesh confirmed the semifinal berth from Group A with one match to spare eliminating all-loser Sri Lanka by 4-0 goal in their first match Tuesday (August 11).
India also assured the semifinal berth from the same group beating Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals in the tournament opener last Sunday (August 9).
Nepal and Afghanistan assured the semifinal berth from Group B eliminating all -loser Maldives by 5-0 and 4-0 goals respectively on August 10 and 12 at the same venue.
