Nepal's economic growth rate estimated to be 2.5pc

KATHMANDU, July 12 (BSS/Xinhua) -- The rate of Nepali economic growth for the fiscal year 2006/2007 has been estimated to be 2.5 percent, the national news agency, RSS, reported today.
This is stated in the Economic Survey for Fiscal Year 2006/2007 ending in mid-July released yesterday.
The survey made public by the ministry of finance reveals that the average growth of agricultural sector in the fiscal year has been just 0.4 per cent against last year's 1.1 per cent.
According to the survey, the contribution of the agriculture sector to the total gross domestic product (GDP) is 36.1 per cent, the retail and wholesale trade is 13.1 per cent, transport, communication and godown sector 8.7 per cent, industry 7.8 per cent, real estate rent and trading 7.5 per cent, construction sector 6.1 per cent and education 5.9 per cent.
