Nephrologist Matiur Rahman passes away

Dr Matiur Rahman, an eminent nephrologist, has passed away at a city hospital recently at the age of 90, says a statement.
The founding head of the Nephrology Department in IPGMR (now Bangladesh Medical University), Dr Matiur Rahman had a role in establishing Bangladesh Kidney Foundation, and had initiated kidney transplant in the country.
Born to a respectable Muslim family at Nazirpur village, part of Natore, he completed his MBBS degree from DMC and undertook his specialisation in nephrology in the UK.
A former president of Bangladesh Renal Association, Dr Matiur Rahman also served as a long-term president of the Bangladesh chapter of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
He left behind his two daughters, two sons, grandchildren and a host of admirers and well-wishers to mourn his death.
