Wednesday, 28 November 2007
The Netherlands will contribute about US$5.0 million over next three years for completing the voters' list with photographs and strengthening the capacity of the Election Commission (EC) to prepare for holding free and fair polls.
In this connection, an agreement was signed at the Netherlands Embassy in the city Tuesday, reports UNB.
Dutch Ambassador Bea Ten Tusscher and UNDP Country Director Manoj Basnyat signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
"The agreement signing will shortly be followed by a joint visit to observe the voter registration around Dhaka and surrounding areas," said a release on the deal.
It said the amount would be provided to the Election Commission through the UNDP project titled "Preparation of Electoral Roll with Photographs (PERP)". It will help establish and strengthen the system necessary to update the voters' list with photographs following the next parliamentary elections.
