New BB directives for refinancing milk production

Bangladesh Bank has issued new directives regarding its refinance scheme about promotion of milk production through cow rearing. The government has introduced the scheme in order to make the country self-reliant in milk production. Under the scheme, farmers will get bank loan at a reduced rate of 5 per cent. Farmers can avail the loan for purchase of a cow which will be capable of getting pregnant within three months. The indigenous species of cows should be given priority. Farmers will get highest Tk 50,000 for the purpose of cow rearing of which Tk 40,000 for purchasing each of the youth cow and another Tk 10,000 for its rearing. A farmer will get highest Tk 0.2 million for purchasing maximum four cows. The grassroots farmers and women will get priority in receiving the loan, according to a news agency.
