FE Report
The newly appointed Bangladesh Biman Airlines chief hopes to take the under-performing national flag carrier to newer heights and greater destinations both nationally and worldwide.
"We need to work as a team to achieve excellence both in the air and on the ground," Air Commodore (Retd) Muhammad Zakiul Islam said after joining office as the Biman's new managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) Monday.
The Board of Directors of the national flag carrier Sunday nominated him after the position fell vacant on resignation of Air Commodore Zahed Kuddus (Retd) in early April.
On his first day at Biman Headquarters, Mr Islam shared his vision with the officials and expressed his intentions of taking the airlines to newer heights and greater destinations both nationally and worldwide, says a press release.
"We will bring in positive changes together and ensure growth with new opportunities in the coming days," said Mr. Islam, a former director (engineering) of Biman from 1998 to 1999.
He joined the then Pakistan Air Force in 1968 and brings with him long years of experience in the field of aviation both in the BAF and Biman.
A graduate from BUET in 1975, he received his technical and professional education in Pakistan, India, USA and China.
He held various important assignments including officer commanding maintenance wings, private secretary to the COAS, Air Secretary, Director of Engineering and finally retiring as the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff.
