The board of directors of Sonar Bangla Insurance Ltd unanimously elected Md Shamsul Haque and Ram Chandra Barai as the chairman and the vice-chairman respectively of the company.
The election was held at the 61st meeting of the board of directors at the company's head office in the city recently.
Md Shamsul Haque was the vice-chairman of the company. He is a renowned businessman and industrialist. He is the chairman of Claxton Apparels and Textile Ltd, the managing director of Red Heart Electric Industries Ltd and Butterfly Sewing Machine Manufac-turing Company Ltd and also the director of SH International Ltd. He is the sole distributor of Butterfly items of China in Bangladesh. He was born at Shahpur under Nabinagar Upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
Ram Chandra Barai, the newly elected vice-chairman of the company, is the proprietor of Nova Jewellers and the chairman of LN International Ltd. He is also the director of Fashion Trust (Pvt) Ltd and Markup Designers Ltd. He is a Rotarian. He is a former president of Rotary Club of Shamoly, Dhaka. He is a member of Savar Golf Club and Army Golf Club.
