The new Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR), Mohammad Abdul Majid, has said he will focus on boosting tax revenue collection while keeping the need for overcoming the adverse impact of the flood on the economy, into consideration.
"I will take effective measures to gear up economic activities so that the country can be run with its own resources rather than depending on foreign aid," he said.
The new NBR chief, who was a member of the planning commission, told this to the newsmen after taking over his charge Monday.
"A prudent fiscal measure can make a country self-reliant," he said adding that the government has to focus on increasing domestic investment and utilising remittances properly.
Revenue is interrelated with economic activities, it is not an isolated matter, he stated.
"The sale of national saving certificates has declined significantly, we have to make efforts for mobilising savings through sales of such certificates," he noted.
"We are passing through a critical time this year on the economic front, and the government has to give more emphasis on tax revenue collection", he added.
There will be no discrimination between the tax realisation procedures of the NBR and its drive against tax evaders, he said.
"We will launch revenue collection drive by 'cross-checking' the situation," he said.
