New convening committees of BNP's district units within a week: Moudud

Tuesday, 14 April 2009

Opposition BNP is going to announce new convening committees for its all district units dissolving the existing ones within a week to hold councils for electing new leaders to rejuvenate the party, reports UNB.
The party's new central committee, national executive committee, national standing committee and its chairperson will also be elected in its upcoming national council by the targeted deadline of July this year.
"We've decided to constitute convening committees in every district dissolving all the existing district committees." BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed MP said in an exclusive interview with the news agency at his Motijheel chamber Monday.
Replying to a question, Moudud said the convening committees would be announced dissolving the district committees within a week or so.
He said a four-member special sub-committee of the standing committee, headed by party chairperson Khaleda Zia, had gone through all the reports submitted by assigned teams containing opinions of the grassroots-level leaders to reorganise the party.
The other members of the sub-committee are party secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Moudud Ahmed MP and Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.
Moudud said the convening committees had been constituted following the due process of consultation with the grassroots-level leaders.
The grassroots leaders from all over the country in their nearly month-long opinion-exchange meetings in February last nominated three names for a convener while 3-4 names for joint conveners.
The special sub-committee, Moudud said, reviewed those proposed names and in some cases crosschecked those with leaders concerned and local activists for constituting the new district convening committees.
